The Rules and details of the competition are as follows:-
This will be a three day open carving competition 18-20th September 2008 Carving to take place from 9am on Thursday and to be completed by 2pm on Saturday. Carving may only take place during the opening hours of the Exhibition 9am - 6pm.
There will be two daily 30 minute speed carving competitions. Each competitor must take part in at least one speed carve during the course of the show.
3. Each competitor will be given a 2m high x 1m diameter (approx.) piece of redwood timber. Competitors will draw lots to determine their piece of timber.
Electricity will be available to all competitors for final finishing with power tools if required.
5. Each competitor will have their own 6m x 6m area. Competitors may provide their own gazebos if required. These will not be supplied.
6. Speed carving will take place in a central arena. The carvings can be sold after the event. Any proceeds of the speed carve are retained by the carver.
7. All carvers must use Echo chainsaws. Chainsaws and clothing (except chainsaw boots) will be provided by Echo if required and competitors must wear Echo safety clothing. The use of saws and clothing by any other manufacturer is not allowed.
For the 3 day carve prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. 1st prize will be £500 + Echo equipment and the Echo trophy, 2nd prize Echo equipment and 3rd prize Echo equipment. Judging will take place on Saturday at 2pm and prizes will be awarded at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.
After the prize giving all pieces will be auctioned. A £500 maximum reserve may be placed on every piece. For every piece sold above the reserve 80% of the sale value will go to the carver and 20% to a charity or charities of the sponsors choosing. In the event of a piece not being sold it remains the property of the carver who may remove it on payment of £50. Any pieces not removed by Wednesday 24th September become the property of APF Ltd.
Expenses of £100 per day for three days will be paid to each carver. This is to cover all accommodation, food and travel. Expenses will only be paid at the end of the competition provided the Competitor has been present for all three days, produced a suitable carving and taken part in 1 speed carve. The competition is limited to 25 carvers. Entry is via the official entry form. If more than 25 entries are received the final choice of competitors will be determined by the Organisers.
In the event of any dispute the decision of the APF official in charge is final.
